Entering the final week of the season…

Tuesday February 22, 2005

We’re into the final week of the regular season, and there are just two games remaining on the schedule. Georgia will travel to Gainesville on Thursday for a rematch with Florida, and they will close the season at home against Vanderbilt on Sunday.

Despite Sunday’s loss at Ole Miss, the Lady Dogs control their own fate for securing both an opening round bye at the SEC Tournament as well as the #3 seed in the tournament. LSU and Tennessee all but have the #1 and #2 seeds wrapped up at this point. Georgia and Vanderbilt are currently tied at 8-4 in the league, so Sunday’s game could very well determine third and fourth place. Keep an eye on Ole Miss as well. At 7-5, the Rebels are just one game behind Georgia and Vanderbilt and could create some interesting tiebreaker situations and possibly work themselves into a bye if UGA and/or Vandy were to slip this week.

After Ole Miss, there is a logjam of six teams all within two games of each other, so there definitely could be some movement in the standings between now and Sunday evening.

It should be a very interesting week! The SEC has a page with current standings and all upcoming games…
