Lady Dogs rout Florida on landmark day

Monday January 30, 2006

Georgia moved to 5-2 in SEC play with a 92-55 win over #24 Florida on Sunday. The Lady Dogs seized control of the game with an 18-2 run midway through the first half and never looked back. This is the second win of the season for Georgia over Florida; Georgia won 89-70 in Athens on January 8.

Georgia has won consecutive road games and now returns home this Thursday for a game against red-hot Kentucky.

During Sunday’s win, two Lady Dogs reached significant career milestones. Sherill Baker now has sole possession of the SEC career steals record. She needed only one steal to set the mark and ended the day with five. Meanwhile, sophmore center Tasha Humphrey became the latest Lady Dog to record 1,000 career points. Only Janet Harris reached the 1,000-point mark in fewer games. Tasha is well on her way to becoming only the fifth Lady Bulldog to have 2,000 points in her career.

Sherill Baker: With two steals at South Carolina, Baker is now tied with Tan White for the SEC record with 372 career steals. Her next steal will put her over the top.

Tasha Humphrey: Humphrey is just eight points shy of 1,000 career points. Fewer than 30 Lady Bulldogs have reached this milestone, and Humphrey is just a sophomore.

74-65 win over South Carolina

Thursday January 26, 2006

Georgia played from behind for much of the first half, but a 10-0 run into the beginning of the second half put the Lady Dogs up for good. South Carolina got no closer than four points the rest of the way, and the Lady Dogs held on for a hard-fought road win. Tasha Humphrey recorded a double-double, Sherill Baker added 17 points, and Cori Chambers hit 4 of 5 three-point attempts.

The Lady Dogs remain on the road this weekend for a rematch with #24 Florida. The Gators had won consecutive games over Ole Miss and Vanderbilt before giving up a comeback win to Arkansas on Thursday.

Monday January 23, 2006

It came down to the final possession, but Georgia fell 65-64 to LSU on Sunday in Athens. After cloase games with Tennessee and LSU and solid wins in all other SEC games to date, there is no question now that Georgia is playing at a high level and can compete with any team in the nation.
