Lady Dogs rebound with 83-61 win at Vanderbilt

Monday February 20, 2006

Sherill Baker scored 22 points, and four Lady Dogs scored in double-figures as Georgia shook off Thursday’s loss to beat Vanderbilt in a key battle of ranked SEC teams.

After Sunday’s SEC action, the Lady Dogs have clinched no worse than 4th place in the SEC regular season standings and a crucial first-round bye in the SEC Tournament. The Lady Dogs are currently tied for third place with Kentucky, but Georgia’s 91-57 win over Kentucky earlier in the season breaks the tie in favor of Georgia.

If Georgia wins out against Arkansas and Auburn, they would earn the #3 seed in the conference tournament regardless of any other team’s wins and losses.

Coco Miller headed back to Minnesota?

Thursday February 9, 2006

Lady Dogs fans know that Coco and Kelly Miller came to Georgia from Rochester, Minn. Kelly was traded to Phoenix last week, but Coco might be on her way back home as the Minnesota Lynx signed her to an offer sheet this week. Because she is a restricted free-agent, Coco’s current team, Washington, has ten days to match the offer.

Tasha Humphrey named co-SEC Player of the Week

Monday February 6, 2006

Tasha Humphrey and LSU’s Sylvia Fowles shared SEC Player of the Week honors this week. Humphrey and Fowles will face off again in Baton Rouge this Sunday when Georgia travels to play LSU. Back-to-back double-doubles against Kentucky and Alabama earned Tasha the award.

Tasha has been named SEC Player of the Week five times in her short career and is only the tenth player in SEC history to earn the award five times.

Lady Dogs head into off-week with win over Alabama

Sunday February 5, 2006

Georgia shot just 41% for the game, but 35 Alabama turnovers and 18 Georgia steals helped fuel another double-digit victory for the Lady Dogs. Cori Chambers led the scoring with 18 points.

At 7-2, the Lady Dogs are alone in third place in the SEC behind LSU and Tennessee. After a week off, the Lady Dogs have an opportunity to make some noise in the standings with back-to-back games against LSU on Sunday in Baton Rouge and then against Tennessee in Athens next Thursday.
