Lady Dogs advance to Sweet 16
Georgia used a 15-0 second half run to pull away from a confident Hartford team and win 73-54 in the second round of the women’s NCAA Tournament Tuesday night in Trenton, NJ. Sherill Baker scored 26 points, and Tasha Humphrey had 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead the way. Janese Hardrick added 12 points off the bench and helped to fuel the second half run along with Baker.
There have been 25 NCAA women’s tournaments. The Lady Dogs have played in 23 of those tournaments and have now advanced to the “Sweet 16″ round in 16 of them.
Georgia advances to meet UConn in the regional semifinals on Sunday evening in Bridgeport, Conn. – right in the Huskies’ backyard. UConn advanced with a relatively easy 79-56 win over Virginia Tech.
Sunday’s game will take place at approx. 9:30 p.m.. TV coverage will be provided by ESPN2 and ESPN2HD.
