Sherill Baker selected in WNBA draft
Wednesday April 5, 2006
Georgia senior standout Sherill Baker was selected in the first round of Wednesday’s WNBA draft with the #12 overall pick by the New York Liberty. Baker will join current UGA assistant coach La’Keshia Frett on the Liberty roster.
The Lady Dogs have seven first-round WNBA selections in the past six years. Seven former Lady Bulldogs were active in the WNBA during 2005.
The WNBA had a ton of content this week from and about Baker and fellow senior Alexis Kendrick:

Included is a great story about Andy Landers and Barbara Turner. “As the players were shooting around before the afternoon session, Georgia coach Andy Landers and Connecticut’s Barbara Turner were joking around in one corner of the court. College coaches were invited to attend the afternoon session of games and you might remember that Turner hit the crazy shot in the corner to knock out Georgia in the regional semifinals. So standing in pretty much the same spot on the court where her shot went in, Landers challenged Turner to hit the shot again. She missed. Badly. And wanted another shot. She missed again. And a third time. Maybe she just needed a hand in her face but at least Landers will have some respite during his therapy sessions this summer…”
