Seen At Stegeman: The Oakland Game

Thursday November 29, 2007

Lady Bulldogs win, 69-59…overcoming an early 13-point deficit. Ultimately, it came down to this: Tasha simply wasn’t going to let Georgia lose this game. She combined with Angel and Megan to dominate the boards in the second half and all three of them ended up going double-double. In fact, Georgia out-boarded Oakland 30-13 in the second half of tonight’s game. But it was Tasha’s second-half hot hand (she scored all 19 of her points in that last 20 minutes) that the Lady Bulldogs turned to time and again in momentum-shifting possessions.

Georgia moves to 7-0 and do you really need me to tell you who’s next on the schedule? This Sunday afternoon? At the Coliseum?

TECH.

Tonight: Georgia vs. Oakland

Thursday November 29, 2007

oaklandbear

Our undefeated Lady Bulldogs return home to tangle with the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University tonight at 7:00 PM.  A search of the internet turned up this picture of an actual grizzly bear ready for some hoops and, quite frankly, it’s not really all that intimidating. Still, any team that battles Auburn the way Oakland did can’t be taken lightly…so come on out and make some noise at Stegeman.

As always, we’ll have post-game details and pictures up late tonight.

Looking Ahead To Oakland

Wednesday November 28, 2007

The Golden Grizzlies have been a mainstay on the Lady Bulldogs’ schedule for several seasons now. And I still always think they must be from Oakland, California. For the record, Oakland University is in Rochester, Michigan. Just outside of Detroit and where Madonna went to high school.

This season, Oakland is off to a 3-1 start. The attention-getter out of those four games? Last week they gave Auburn all they could handle, leading by six with under nine minutes to play before losing by eight.

Tomorrow night. 7:00 at Stegeman. Georgia vs. Oakland. Come loaded for bear.

Here’s a link to Oakland’s women’s basketball page.

Fastbreaking News: Key Dates

Monday November 26, 2007

(Reprinted from November’s Fastbreaking News)

Your Fastbreak Club is pleased to announce the dates for two of most popular annual events. Our newest tradition, the SEC Pep Rally…marking the start of conference play, will take place on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Stegeman Coliseum. Pizza and soft drinks will be served in the meeting room behind the scoreboard and Club members will gather in the seating area behind the basket on that end of the Coliseum. There we’ll be treated to special entertainment on the Coliseum’s giant video screen and, as always, there will be words of wisdom from Coach Landers to enjoy. We’re keeping the agenda clear for this event…so there’s no telling who else might speak or what might happen. That’s why you’ve got to plan on being there. All the details will be in your invitation to the Fastbreak Club SEC Pep Rally, which will show up in your mailbox very soon.

The Senior Reception, where we’ll have a chance to express our appreciation for four memorable years from Megan Darrah, Tasha Humphrey, and Rebecca Rowsey, will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008 in the Coliseum Practice Facility’s Hospitality Room. More details will be passed along as the event gets a little closer. Go ahead and set aside those two dates to join the rest of your Fastbreaking friends at the SEC Pep Rally and the Senior Reception.

Another Good Game On TV This Afternoon

Sunday November 25, 2007

LSU at Rutgers. 2:30 PM on ESPN2. It’s good to have Andy’s longtime sparring partner Van Chancellor back in the conference as the new coach at LSU. Tune in, do a little SEC advance scouting, and see if Big Syl throws down another dunk. This should be a good one.

The USC Game

Saturday November 24, 2007

59-57, good guys. Ladies and gentlemen, your Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division Champion Georgia Lady Bulldogs. Has a real ring to it, doesn’t it? Bottom line…mission accomplished in the Bahamas. Tasha rung up her third straight double-double and will be bringing the tournament’s Freeport Division MVP award home with her. Angel also went double-double and had a key steal at the end of the game. That’s two early nailbiters against big-time programs (Temple and USC) that the Lady Bulldogs have found a way to win. So far, so good…

Next up: Oakland at Stegeman next Thursday night.

All in all, not a bad weekend to be a Georgia Bulldog.
