Seen At Stegeman: The Mississippi State Game

Sunday February 1, 2009

Sorry this recap is a little late. Your humble Fastbreak Club blogger planned his evening around the Bruce Springsteen concert that was apparently held during halftime of some football game or another. But, now that we’re all together here:

Georgia – 69, Mississippi State – 57. You have to like the tenacity these Lady Bulldogs have displayed over the last couple of weeks. Sure, State trimmed that 17-point halftime lead down to two about midway through the second half…largely by storming the backcourt as Georgia brought the ball up, thereby dictating the pace of the game for a stretch. But, even only up by two, it never really felt like there was any danger of the Lady Dawgs letting this one get away. Not even with State’s long-range mad bombers raining down threes. They did in the second half what any team with a big lead tries to do: Get good shots and knock them down, “D”-up, and make your foul shots. Just a nice, solid win. One that ensures the wind will still be at the Lady Bulldogs’ backs as they head up to Knoxville next week.

Porsha, a player coming more and more into her own every single game, went double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), creating offense off her dribble with an assortment of nifty little one-handed runners and lay-ups. Christy’s resurgence as an offensive force continued today as she chipped in with 13 points. Angel also scored 13 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Next up: Tennessee in Knoxville…next Thursday night. We’ll have a preview of the Georgia/Tennessee game posted here sometime on Wednesday.
