Seen At Stegeman: The LSU Game

Thursday February 19, 2009

LSU – 57, Georgia – 46. I’m telling you right now…If I’m Nell Fortner, Pat Summitt, Melanie Balcomb, or Amanda Butler, I don’t want to see LSU in my bracket at the SEC Tournament. This is one tough, agile, athletic, and, of course, well-coached Lady Tiger team that seems to be hitting its stride at just the right time. It helps when your opponent has yet another lengthy dry spell on offense that enables you to go on a big run, as was the case tonight for Georgia late in the first half and early in the second. But in the first five minutes, the Lady Dawgs were “D”ing-up on the Lady Tigers and they responded by just flat-out knocking down some shots. They hit shots with hands in their faces. They hit shots with the shot clock running down. Still, Georgia only trailed by seven at the half…and they trimmed the LSU lead down to three a couple of times midway through the second half. However, that big, momentum-shifting three-pointer or steal-and-layup just never materialized. The unhappy result, despite Angel’s 15 points/15 boards double-double, is the first four-game single-season losing streak in the Andy Landers era at the University of Georgia.

Now it’s on to Auburn as the Lady Dawgs and Lady Tigers will hook it up Sunday afternoon on The Plains. We’ll have a Georgia/Auburn preview posted here sometime during the day on Saturday.
