The Kentucky Game

Thursday February 26, 2009

“Nothing is over until we decide it is!” – The late John Belushi in National Lampoon’s Animal House

Georgia – 61, Kentucky – 57. How do you like your Lady Bulldogs now, Fastbreakers? How do you like your gutty, gritty Lady Dawgs after tonight? After what they pulled off in Lexington? Wow. Porsha went double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Angel finished a point short of doing likewise (9 points, 11 boards)…but tonight was all about the A-Train. Ashley put this team on her shoulders tonight and flat-out willed them to victory. A career high 26 points. Icing the game with clutch free throws in the closing seconds. Simply a masterful performance. Kentucky had obviously seen the tapes of the LSU game last week and decided, like the Lady Tigers, that they could win the game if they neutralized Ash and made some other Lady Bulldogs step up and shoulder the offense. Sorry, Wildcats…not tonight. But don’t take my word for it. Here’s Coach Landers talking about tonight’s stellar effort by his co-captain and floor general: “It was a gutty performance. We needed someone to gut it out and Ashley did just that. The most impressive piece of it was that they were literally dogging her from end to end trying to keep the ball out of her hands most of the night. She had to work hard just to get the ball and then get it up the floor.” And so we live to fight yet another day…

This Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs take the court at Stegeman Coliseum for the 2008-09 season’s final home game. Come out and help us send senior co-captain Danielle Taylor off with a big win over Florida. We’ll have a Georgia/Florida preview and game links posted right here on your official Fastbreak Club weblog sometime on Saturday.

Don’t stop believin’, Fastbreakers…
