Five Galleries Of Holiday Gathering Pics Posted!

Sunday December 13, 2009

IMG_6973 This past Saturday (December 12), the Lady Bulldog basketball family once again graciously welcomed the Fastbreak Club into their home at the Coliseum for the team’s annual building of bikes for local area needy children. There are 40 photos from the day’s festivities posted and they are divided into five galleries. Gallery #5 is right below this post…just scroll down until you find Gallery #1 and work your way back to the top here. If you’re a Fastbreaker working on a player scrapbook and there’s a photo here of your player that you’d like to use in your book, just click on the picture and you’ll see a slightly larger sized version of it. Right-click on the larger picture to save it to your hard drive. If for whatever reason, you can’t get your picture to save…just drop a line here to m.holcomb@charter.net and I’ll be more than happy to e-mail you a .JPEG file of any photos you need.

Thanks, as always, to the Lady Bulldog players, coaches, and staff for making all of us feel so welcome. Thanks to Academy Sports for providing the bikes and…last but not least…thanks to all the Fastbreakers who turned out, brought their tools, rolled up their sleeves, and helped build not just bikes, but a Merry Christmas for some special children in our community.

Seen At Stegeman: The Tennessee State Game

Tuesday December 8, 2009

Georgia – 71, Tennessee State – 50. With apologies to “Mama,” the original subject of this famous quote: “If Coach ain’t happy, they ain’t nobody happy.” Sure, Georgia picked up their ninth straight win to remain undefeated tonight, but Coach Landers said in tonight’s post-game show that this was the team’s poorest showing of the season. So, Coach was not happy. He even got rung up with a technical foul in the second half. So, rather than dwell on this one too much, we’ll just congratulate Meredith on a new career-high scoring effort and run down a few more highlights from tonight’s 71-50 win over Tennessee State.

As mentioned above, when Meredith wasn’t showing off her silky, gliding, George Gervin-like moves to the basket, she was shaking her defender to spot-up and drain long three-pointers. Her 17 points led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring tonight while Ashley added 13 and Anne Marie wound up scoring ten points. Jasmine Hassell asserted herself in the paint and scored a quick six points in limited playing time. In fact, every Lady Bulldog got on the scoreboard tonight…including another big threejack from Candace Williams. The most unwelcome number on the stat sheet was the 9-of-16 that Georgia shot from the foul line. If you want to put close games away, you’ve gotta knock down your free throws…and tonight was Georgia’s second straight sub-par free throw shooting game. So…to summarize…this game wasn’t one for the time capsule, but it was a “W.”

Next up for the Lady Dawgs: A twelve-day hiatus for final exams. We’ll next see Georgia on the court on Sunday, December 20 as they take on nationally ranked Virginia at the Coliseum. As for your official Fastbreak Club weblog, we’ll still be updating the polls weekly, posting program listings for upcoming TV games, and keeping an eye out for Fastbreaking news from the SEC and around the country. So keep checking in with us daily, we’ll get you through the next twelve days…

Georgia Climbs In Coaches Poll, Now #13

Tuesday December 8, 2009

espnusatodayThe nation’s coaches and women’s college basketball writers are not seeing eye-to-eye so far this season. It’s certainly not unusual for the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls to show a little variation…like one poll’s #4 is the other poll’s #6…that kind of thing. But check these out: LSU? The AP writers have the Tigers pegged as the number-five team in the nation. According to the coaches, who rank LSU twelfth, they’re not even top-ten material. Texas A&M? The coaches say the Aggies are a top-five team. The writers beg to differ, slotting them in at #10. Go figure.

As for our Lady Bulldogs, it was a week of significant upward movement in the coaches poll. Georgia goes from #16 to #13 this week (matching their ranking in the AP poll). Here’s this week’s ESPN/USA Today top five and Georgia’s ranking:

1. Connecticut

2. Stanford

3. Tennessee

4. Notre Dame

5. Texas A&M

13. GEORGIA

TOMORROW NIGHT: Georgia vs. Tennessee State

Monday December 7, 2009

Your undefeated and nationally ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs will take a tiger by the tale tomorrow night (the Tennessee State Lady Tigers, that is) as they look to carry a perfect 9-0 record into the traditional December hiatus for final exams. They’ll take on a State team that stumbled out of the gate this season, losing their first three games. The Lady Tigers have steadied the ship somewhat since then. They’ve won three of their last four games and are currently sporting a record of 3-4. It’s your last chance to see the Lady Dawgs here in town for almost two weeks…so don’t pass it up.

The Lady Bulldogs and Tennessee State are set for a 7:00 PM opening tip tomorrow night at Stegeman Coliseum. The game can also be heard on your local Georgia Bulldog Radio Network affiliate station. We’ll have a game recap, web links, and exclusive Georgia/Tennessee State photos posted right here shortly after the game’s conclusion.
