Georgia – 71, Tennessee State – 50. With apologies to “Mama,” the original subject of this famous quote: “If Coach ain’t happy, they ain’t nobody happy.” Sure, Georgia picked up their ninth straight win to remain undefeated tonight, but Coach Landers said in tonight’s post-game show that this was the team’s poorest showing of the season. So, Coach was not happy. He even got rung up with a technical foul in the second half. So, rather than dwell on this one too much, we’ll just congratulate Meredith on a new career-high scoring effort and run down a few more highlights from tonight’s 71-50 win over Tennessee State.
As mentioned above, when Meredith wasn’t showing off her silky, gliding, George Gervin-like moves to the basket, she was shaking her defender to spot-up and drain long three-pointers. Her 17 points led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring tonight while Ashley added 13 and Anne Marie wound up scoring ten points. Jasmine Hassell asserted herself in the paint and scored a quick six points in limited playing time. In fact, every Lady Bulldog got on the scoreboard tonight…including another big threejack from Candace Williams. The most unwelcome number on the stat sheet was the 9-of-16 that Georgia shot from the foul line. If you want to put close games away, you’ve gotta knock down your free throws…and tonight was Georgia’s second straight sub-par free throw shooting game. So…to summarize…this game wasn’t one for the time capsule, but it was a “W.”
